(*) We have just been informed that a meeting will
take place on Wednesday, 5/27/87 at 7:30 pm the Morley
Health Center. This will be an open meeting. Mr. Jim
Carsten, Akron General Tobacco and Mr. Bill Owen,
Owner of a restaurant called "Jack Homer" will be
present. The purpose of this meeting is to prepare
this piece of legislation for a vote on June I, 1987.
Hearing on Monday, 5/11/87 at 5:30 p.m.
There will be a hearing on Thursday, 4/30/87 before
the Health and Safety Committee at 2:00 p.m.
Summary:
Require certain public or private buildings, depending
on the number of people who work there, to have
smoke-free areas. It would also require smoke-free
restrooms, elevators, lunch rooms and "any areas where
passive smoking would be a health hazard,. This would
affect all areas except cities or villages where such
ordinances already exist. Employers would have six
months to develop plans to provide smoking areas.
Fine would be $50 for the first offense and $250 for
the second.

\ and Simon Turner were excellent in their testimony, as
1 well as all other allies. Labor was unable to attend,
however did make a call to the committee to express
their opposition to this legislation. We feel we have
a good chance of amending this bill to be more .` ~
meaningless.

A committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday,
4/30/87. Time is unknown at present. This meeting
will be open to the public. Hearings for testimony
