Abstract
San Bruno type ordinance. Ordinance calls for creating non-smoking areas in city-owned buildings-and prohibiting smoking in confined public places such as restrooms and elevators. Employers are required to draft their own policies
within 90 days.
**'5/19/87 - Burlingame passed ordinance by a 4-0
vote. Amended to leave up to owner/manager to set-up
smoking policy. Restaurants with over 50 seats
required to have 50/50 smoklng/non-smoking areas.

Would prohibit smoking in day care and health care
facilities; would prohibit the free distribution of
sample cigarettes; would restrict the sale and
advertising of tobacco products.
On 5/7/87, p.m., measure passed on House floor by a
vote of 112-14. There was NO SAMPLING BAN, NO dollar
for dollar provisions for billboard ads, and NO ban on
advertising on state property.
Today, measure passed on Senate floor overwhelmingly.
However: Amt. to ban advertising and sales on state
owned property defeated 28-29. Amt. to ban sampling
except single servings in tobacco stores passed 32-22.
Anticipate House will concur with Senate amendments
and repass. Brozek and Jacobson are on site.
