The Board of Directors of the American Cancer
Society brings together all the different experi-
ences and skills necessary to fight cancer. What
a great team it is-the scientist who works to un-
lock the secrets of the disease, the business leader
who raises the money and gives us efficient organi-
zation and administration, the civic leader ~vho
spreads our lifesaving message, and the doctor
who provides skillful and sympathetic treatment
and hope at the patient's bedside.
This is what we have on our Board of Directors
-a distinguished and united team. There are 68
members-half professional and half lay--repre-
senting every geographical area in the country.
There are men and women who are nationally
known leaders in industry, finance, philanthropy,
law, government, education, communications, etc.
There are those from the medical and scientific
professions who hold some of the greatest honors
for their achievements against cancer-included is
a Nobel Prize winner.
The Society has always been fortunate in having
the continuing services of exceptional men and
women since our initial organization in 1913 and
our reorganization in 1945. In order to retain the
valuable counsel and experience of those who have
served the longest, a number have been elected life-
time Honorary Directors. These nine arepresented
first in this roster.
At least three times each year, at the Board
meetings, these representatives come together to
pool their individual knowledge and ideas-and to
plan the total attack against cancer. And commit-
tees on which they serve meet many more times
during the year.
Through KNOW YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS we are
proud to present these dedicated men and women
whose zeal and determination so truly reflect the
spirit that motivates our more than a million
volunteers.
