The American Cancer-Society is a voluntary agency run in a democratic manner by a Board of Directors of 68 men and women. They are intimately concerned with its affairs and de- vote much time and effort to discharging their responsibilities. Accordingly, the Society is, in a very real sense, a reflection of these dedicated persons who make up its governing body. The Society, which was formed in 1913 and reorganized in 194.5, has fortunately had the continuing services of many exceptional men and women over a long period of years. In order to keep available counsel and experience of those who have served the longest and to make way for new persons on the Board. a number have been elected Honorary Life M~m- bers of the Board. These nine are presented first in this roster. One-half of the 68 active Board Members are from the Medical and Scientific professions. In looking over the list, you will find many who have won national and international rec- ognition in their fields. Equally varied and distinguished are those lay men and women, who are united in this effort by their common interest in cancer con- trol. Here are names which are household words in industry, finance, philanthropy, law, government, education, communications, etc. To a very large degreo the scope and vigor of the Society's program of research, educa- tion and service is due to its ability to call on all of the people who make up its Board for their advice. The 68 active members help con- ceive and implement the many varied activities which are essential to mount the constantly accelerating attack against cancer.
