Abstract

Companies Inc. today announced that Michael A. Miles, 50, has been elected to the board of directors of Philip Morris Companies Inc. and named chairman and chief executive officer of Kraft General Foods. Mr. Miles was also elected a vice chairman of Philip Morris. With this addition, the Philip Morris board increases from 21 to 22 directors.

Miles, 50, has been elected to the board of directors of Philip Morris Companies Inc. and named chairman and chief executive officer of Kraft General Foods. Mr. Miles was also elected a vice chairman of Philip Morris. With this addition, the Philip Morris board increases from 21 to 22 directors. Mr. Miles succeeds John M. Richman, who had previously announced his retirement. Prior to his current position, Mr. Miles had been president and chief executive officer of Kraft General Foods. He joined Kraft, Inc. as president and chief operating officer in 1982. Fried Chicken Corporation (KFC) worldwide. Mr. Miles joined Heublein in 1971 as senior vice president of marketing for its Kentucky Fried Chicken subsidiary. From 1972 to 1975 he was vice president and general manager of the grocery products group, and in 1976 and 1977 served as group vice president of Heublein's International Operations. He was named chairman of KFC in 1977 and senior vice president for all food operations in 1980. For i0 years preceding his employment at Heublein, Mr. Miles was with Leo Burnett Co., a Chicago-based advertising agency. Mr. Miles is a director of First Chicago Corporation and Capital Holding Corporation. He is a trustee of Lake Forest College, a member of the advisory council of J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and serves on the business advisory council for Carnegie Mellon University. Mr. Miles is a director of National Junior Achievement in Chicago, and The Lyric Opera of Chicago. Mr. Miles earned a bachelor's degree in 1961 from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, where he majored in advertising. - more - - 2 - TI31551298
