Dear Mr. Steech:
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with
me.
On July 13, the House of Representatives passed a trans-
portation and related agencies appropriations bill which included
an amendment that would effectively ban smoking on shorter
commercial airline flights. This amendment was adopted by a
narrow 198-193 vote and would work by denying Federal Aviation
Administration grants to any airport that allowed a carrier to
permit smoking on flights lasting less than two hours. It is
uncertain what will happen with this provision when the bill is
debated by the full Senate. I appreciate knowing your views on
this controversial matter and I will give them every
consideration as I deliberate.
Again, thank you for contacting me.
Sincerely,
