U.S. Senate
Washington, D.C. 20510 ~'~
Dear Senator Wirth:
I am writinq to express my opposition to the Durbin
Amendment, which would prohibit smoking on all airline
flights of two hours or less, as well as any further smoking
restrictions.
The legislature should be spending their energies and time
towards more important issues rather than restrictive .~
smoking measures which are only favored by a minority. I am
a smoker and I find that the majority of the people are not
bothered by cigarette smoke however, the minority seem to be
able to intimidate the smokers. I, for one, do not feel
intimidated as I feel as I have just as much right as the
nonsmoker.
I urge you to not only vote against the. Durbin Amendment
but any further smoking legislation or taxation.
You are elected to represent all the people.
S.~ncerely~,n

Dear Senator Armstrong:
This letter is to urge you to oppose any legislation
designed to ban smoking on commercial air carriers.
Nearly 90% of the flying public feels that the current
smoking restrictions on airplanes is satisfactory.
Such restrictions would surely cause compliance
problems and could create a situation where smoking in
lavoratories occurs where there could be a fire
hazard.
Your
appreciated.
Best personal regards.

Dear Senator Kassebaum:
As a smoker and frequent flier, I must voice my
opposition to the Durbin Amendment. Ventilation systems
on airliners are more than adequate to accommodate
smokers and non-smokers.
I truly feel we have many more serious problems in the
airline industry that need to be taken care of and need
your attention.

September 15, 1987,
Dear Mr. Buechner,
! am writing to voice my bppositionon two issues that concerns
me. The first is the proposed increase in the federal excise
tax on a pack of cigarettes, which was doubled in,1984 from 8˘
to 16˘,
The •second issue is,the attempt to curtail or ban smoking,on
domestic airline.fights, whic5 limits freedom of choice. I
feel most smokers in public are considerateof the rights of non-
smokers and the limit has worked on airlines with the last
few ~eats in the back on the aircraft designated for smoking.
Thank you for your consideration on these two what I feel are
veryimportan~ matters~

Dear Sir:
As a smoker and a frequent flyer, I am very pleased and
thankful that you have opposed regulations in regards to
Airline Smoking Bans.
The National Academy of Science said last year that there
is nothing in the scientific literature showing casual
exposure to tobacco smoke in public places to be a health
risk. This includes airplanes. Based on this, I would
strongly appreciate you opposing anyfurther regulations
on airline smoking bans.

Senator John C. Danforth, U.S.S.
U.S. Senate
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Mr. Danforth :
Smoking aboard aircraft is already sharply restricted; every
passenger is guaranteed a "no-smoking" seat -- even if a
smoking section must be reduced or eliminated to satisfy that
guarantee.
Based on the above, I would appreciate you opposing any cur-
rent or future restrictions against airline smoking bans.

U.S. Senate
Washington, DC.20510
Dear Mr. Bond:
A 1987 Airline Pilots Association poll determined airline
passengers, by a margin of 87~ to 12~, believe that the
"current p~actice of separating smoking and non-smoking
passengers is a reasonable policy that respects the rights
of each."
Based on the above, I would appreciate you opposing any
current or future restrictions against airline smoking
bans.
