I believe this to be an act of incredible ignorance of the facts,, I cannot believe anyone other than a very small minority, •would want such a ban. I be- lieve that, if you or any other rational person would examine the facts, they would see that the proposed ban is totally un- meccessary. The r~al facts are as follows: A 1987 Airline Pilots Association poll determined ~hat airline passengers, by a margin of 87% to :12%, believe tha'ttiie "current • practice of separating smoking and non-smoking passengers is a reasonable policy that respects the.rights of each." Measurements of nicotine in aircraft cabins ind'icate that the small amount of cigarette smoke in..the nonsmokling se~ isso small that it would take the equivalent :of.~:24• hours/log nine days of non-stop flying, for nonsmokers ~o b~ e~pOs~ ~to • ... . the "nicotine equivalent" of a single ciga~ette!J~!!i.i :' Some say aircraft smoking may ~r~sent a skies. But, according to NaEional T~anspor~t~;on!i.,~a~ f~%~ records, since 1970, not a single airline fire' h~ been deter- mined to have been smoking related!!!! What is really going on here is an atteg, pt by.& very small lobby, to force its will on the majority. This group of anti- smoking zealots, are trying to create a problem, when ~ fact there is none.
