KEYWORDS . pissarro, expansion, trial, et, berlin, it, mti, fc, tobacco, br OBJECTIVES This projiect was implemented to carry out expansion runs in the ET installation at PNiG-Berlin for MTI (Italian Monopoly) , using 100'~ flue-cured tobacco delivered by I.Tl. It also involves our assistance to MTI for the installation andistart'-up of an ET plant in Bologna. STATUS In July, two additional laydowns of 10`000 kg of f1mT_ tobacco (runs VII and' VIII) were processed a~nd' e::pr.ndec' in the Berlin primary (1). The tobacco was, for the last time, composed of: 60~ ltalian~ and 40% Brazilian, flue-curea stripsir_the five d'i fferent 1ots,already known. Fror, Auyust through December 1!98&, twenty-one ac;C'._tional laydowns of 1'0:' 00'0 kg of D_T? tobaccos have to be expar.ued (2):. F'or these runs a newly d'eveioped tobacco blend, composed of 10~different tebacco lots, has to be used (3). The r~lrst delivery or these tobaccos caused some prolblems in Berlin. One tobacco lot representing, 10 0 of the total blend was delivered~ir~ bales of 100 kg, which o= course creates a lot of probiet,:s in an automatic process controlled systten.r intended for the handling, o= cardboard cases of 2010 kg (4). In addition, some oi the raw tobacco was found to be infested. These problems were finally solved in the following shipments of raw tobacco irom MTI to Berlin by replacing this tcbacco lot and by fumigating, the other suspected tobGccos (15) . Due to these problems, the first laydown with this new tobaccoo blend was finally er.panaed on August 2:3, 19'88, with a delay of about 10 days (1l) . Three further runs were thenicarried out during September.
