KEYWORDS . caiman, waterstained, fc, tobacco, expansion, et, ks, br, zw OBJECTIVES This study was initiated inierder to determine if waterstained! tobaccos expand as well as standard tobacccs. STATUS For this study, ilue-cured tobaccos from Korea, Brazil and 7.im,babwe, unc:er the supervision of PT,i tobacco ex.perts, were deliberately waterstained prior to redrying in their respective countries (1, 2, 3). The -cobaccos were then shipped from each country to the FTR warehouses in Ornnens, together with some "normally treated" tobucco as a reierence (4)!. ', The first expansion runs took place in September 1988 in, Onnens with the trial anci re--erence tobaccos from F::or_ea and BrE.zii. The tobacco from Zimbabwe sliould arrive in Onnens during October. Four laydowns of l'1'000 kg each of 100% flue-cured tobacco were proceased in the FTR primary on September 27 and expanded the next day in Onnens. Norroblems were encountered during, the processi nqand expansion which was carried out according to speciiicGtions for an ET-FCF (ii 011) . LnLlytical follow-up is under way.
