early detection and treatment of cancer has been assured with a
$1,OSO,O00 three-year renewal grant to the UCLA School of Hedicine "
from four tobacco companies,
This grant brings the total eight-year commitment to $2,750,000.

Novel concepts o£ treatment, including bone marrow transplants
for aplastic anemia and the leukemia patients are being studied. "
New approaches to sickle cell anemia and other genetic and malignant
diseases are being examined. Basic research in lung def.ense mechanisms
and recombinant DNA are also being supported by the grant.
