Re: Extension of UCLA Research Project
Gentlemen:
At Bill Shinn's request, I am enclosing an Extension
Agreement between the Regents of the University of California
and Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation; Philip Morris, Incor-
porated; R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and United States Tobacco
Company for the three-year continuation of suppor~ of the UCLA
Research Program. The Agreement provides for extension of the
Program at the current funding level of $350,000 per year through
May 31, 1982. The Program budget is attached as Exhibit A.
During the extension period, the Program is governed by the pro-
visions of the original Agreement which is attached as Exhibit B.
I am sending the original and seven copies of the Exten-
sion Agreement to Dr. Hughes for execution of all copies on be-
half of Brown & Williamson. He should then fo~ard the copies
for signature to the other sponsoring companies as their names
appear in the Agreement. After the copies have been signed and
dated by all parties, they should be returned to me for distribu-
tion. I will send an executed copy to each company.
Since the original Agreement expires on May 31, 1979,
I would appreciate your giving attention to this matter at your
earliest convenience.
