Abstract

Reports on progress of Public Smoking Program, strategies of which include a focus on indoor air quality, challenging the scientific community "to deal honestly with ETS," demonstration of the consequences of smoking restrictions, and use of third parties to communicate pertinent messages. Discusses the Center for Indoor Air Research, assistance to parties interested in workplace restrictions, media tours including "The Truth Squad," ETS ads and the use of organized labor on the issue of indoor air quality, push for ventilation standards, and establishment of NEMI. Reports on "The Great American Challenge," a challenge to the American Cancer Society "to test the air breathed by its staff, volunteers and visitors." Notes that TI will pay for the air audits if ACS agrees to use NEMI members to conduct audits, make the results public, and abide by NEMI's recommendations.
