Re: Meetings in San Jose Relating to the ETS Consultants Program
Abstract
Summarizes meetings in San Jose regarding ETS consultants program. Identifies participants, and issues discussed, including: smoking restrictions in Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama; status of Central American Field Study (IAQ), conducted "under the auspices of...CIAR;" possibility of conducting a study on household pollution caused by heating and cooking in Guatemala; distribution of McGill study in Costa Rica and Guatemala; recruitment of medical consultant; Costa Rican journalist visit to U.S.; smoking restrictions at Miami Airport; EEC study funding; and international press responses. Notes total cost of IAQ study is $136,000.00 (BAT and PMI will contribute), and that government officials in study countries will be briefed on results before publication, to avoid "feeling that they had somehow been 'sandbagged.'" Attaches table (in Spanish) of buildings visited (for IAQ) study including data on number of people surveyed, date, approximate age of building, type of facility, and number of floors.
