RE: Proposed NYC Smoke-F"ree Air Act: III
(
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday, I attended a meeting at Philip Morris
concerning the Vallone Bill. Dan Wahby presided over this
meeting, which was hosted by Sharon Portnoy, and was attended by
Norm Adler, Mel Miller, Steve Aiello and a representative from
Frederick & Schnider's, which is a polling organization.
Having identified 12 key council districts, we instructed
the pollster to design a questionnaire geared to determining the
public's desire to go beyond current accommodation law. A draft,
and a budget for these polls, will be ready shortly.
Much discussion focused around the best manner in which
to prod restaurant owners/hoteliers to act. Agreement was
reached that the goal should be private meei:ii,gs between the
restaurant/hotel folks and key councilmen. We will pursue
various avenues to accomplish this.
Peter Vallone's counsel, Richard Weinberg, has invited
comments and David Remes will provide the same.
The timing of all this will become clearer after Norman
Adler's lunch with Vallone, set for today. I will talk over your
Uptown editorial/ACLU suggestions with the TI.
