MEMORANDUM December 27, 1994 TO: Mr. J.R. Cherry FROM: N. Simeonidis RE: New York City ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------- Our plans for the next few days: (1) Political operative Joni Yosewine will mobilize her assistants to direct faxes and phone calls to City Hall using her restaurant contacts made thus far; (2) Fred Sampson of the Restaurant Association and Scott Wexler of the United Hotel, Restaurant and Tavern Owners Association will be asked to contact the Mayor's office; (3) I will compile a list of all restaurants who have publicly opposed the bill (Angelo's list plus that of Yosewine) for submission to the Mayor; (4) 1 will bundle together a copy of each letter Angelo generated for submission to the Mayor; and (5) 1 have asked Dan Wahby to consult again with Ralph Vinovich regarding any Republicans who would intercede with Rudy on our behalf. I would also like to pursue the idea of a meeting between Bob Tisch and either Peter Powers or the Mayor. Note that several "Board of Director level" personnel from Philip Morris have already met with the Mayor and, I am told, were poorly received. These contacts have taken place over the last tbw months. The word now is that the health department has won out over economic development and PM's latest attempt to meet with Giuliani has been refused until "after the matter is resolved." Nonetheless, rumor has it that the Mayor may hold a hearing or hearings on the bill sometime next week. If this happens, we will have a presence there. I will insure that a"reeular snioker" testifies as well. NS:sds
