CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF SMOKE FROM TWO ADDITIONAL DOMESTIC LOW TAR AND NICOTINE CIGARETTES W. H. Griest, R. B. Quincy, and A. H. Marshall Introduction: This Topical Report contains analytical data for the deliveries of tar, nicotine, CO, C02, HCN, NOx (as NO), and acrolein by two additional domestic low tar and nicotine cigarettes, Tareyton Lights and Benson & Hedges Lights. This study was performed in response to a special NCI request for data on specified additional brands. ~ Experimental: These two brands were purchased locally. Standard NCI protocol methods were employed for all handling, smokirig, and analytical operations. Results and Discussion: The data identifying these cigarettes and their deliveries of selected smoke constituents are presented in Table I. Tarey- ton Lights is seen to deliver from 10 percent (nicotine) to 80 percent (CO) less of these smoke constituents than the Benson & Hedges Lights. The only available comparative data suggest a 11 mg tar and 0.8 mg nicotine delivery for the latter br°and. Our results are in good agreement. Comments: These data are to be included with the body of data reported in Topical Report No. 51-A, °Chemical Analysis of Smoke from the Second Set of Certain Domestic Commercial Low Tar and Nicotine Czgarettes," (10-6-77).
