Box 21688, Greensboro, North Carolina 2742C July 12, 1983 Microbiological Associates 5221 River Road Bethesda, biD 20816 ~ Dr. Carol J. Henry Dear Dr. Henry: - The following is a list of comments and questions for draft reports 1-1729.003 and 1-1729.004, Comparative Toxicity of Test Cigarette Smoke with Reference gigarette Smoke After Inhalation in Mice and Rats with LRC materials D6 and D10, respectiveli: 1-1729.003 i fJ l~ ri _ '~ •~- 1. On page 12, paragraph 3, line 13: the text should read "for ~" mice exposed to cigarette D10, the mean was significantly lower than the reference." 2. On page 12, paragraph 6, line 6: although the one unre- covered covered survivor mentioned here is noted in Table 5F for Group 6, it would be helpful to report that this survivor was from Group 6 (D6 cigarette) in this section as well. 3. In Table 2C, there seems to be disagreement with Table 3C as ~4 in Table 2C seems to have been the non-survivor as evidenced ~ to which animal died. Animal #1073 which is reported to have died during exposure in Table 3C seems to have received ~jmaximum exposure as shown in Table 2C, whereas animal #107 8 `J~.., V by the smaller numbers of exposures and puffs received.' J '' 1o Please clarify. ~~ 4.. In Table 3G: Why was the body weight fo~' 1#.1097 omitted for Day 1? Which animal was the one survivor in this group as referred to in Table 5G? 1-1729.004 ! .` C., J ' rt 1 \ ~.~ 1. On page 6, paragraph 1, line 3: received is misspelled.. , GO 2. On page 12, paraqraph 6, lines 4-7: according to Table 5, 00 the observations mentioned do not appear in all the smoke- ~ ~ exposed groups as is reported here. The observations of "occasionally trembling" and "fur soiled" are not reported N ~ in Table 5. ~ W ~
