Your letter concludes with the request that we provide youlwithiany explanati~on we might have as to why the Company's product happened to appear in the five movies de- scribed above. As our answers indicate, neither the Company nor Rogers & Cowan played~any role in causing cigarettes to ap- pear i~n~ the scripts of themov:i~esyou, havementioned, and! on noloccasiion was there any payment for placement of our prod- ucts therein. Although we thus have no direct knowledge ass to why these movies may have included characters smoking our products, we cannot help but observe that large numbers of American adUl~ts do smok,e. Given this fact, many movile scripts do include scenes showing people smoking,. When thiis occurs, we will',, upon request, provide free cigarettes to the producer if the movie meets the Company"s standards as stated in my:letter to you of February 28, 1989. very truly yours Wayne W. Juchatz
