The 1980 Annual Report does not mention any asbes-
tos tos litigation against any subsidiaries although there is a
description of a lawsuit against Corco, one of its 50% account
subsidiaries.
Other pertinent information:
The accountants for Corning Glass are Price Water-
house, New York, N.Y., while PPG Industries accountants are
Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, Pittsburgh, Pa.
While examining the 1980 annual reports of both
companies, I discovered several interesting facts. Corning
Glass acknowledges that it does own 50% of Pittsburgh Corning.
However, PPG Industries does not recognize Pittsburgh Corning
whatsoever. In fact, PPG's 1980 proxy statement lists L.
Stanton Williams (PPG's Chairman of the Board and Chief Execu-
tive Officer and Director) as a director of Dravo Corp., Rubber-
maid, Inc., Mellon National Corp. and Mellon Bank N:A., but
the report makes no mention of his directorship of Pittsburgh
Corning. It is as if the corporation does not exist, despite
1980 sales of over $60 million.
I was not able to find out who the corporate counsel
were for both companies. However, I spoke with a member of the
legal staff of PPG Industries who said that PPG has
several on-
going suits involving different firms.

Pittsburgh Corning is a defendant in the Bell Case
in San FYancisco and also in the so-called "Nine Los Angeles
Cases" which are: Anderson, Arne, Belford, Bergin, Days, Her-
nandez, Manai, Megran and Walker. It was also a defendant in
the Arceneaux (Los Angeles) and Aguilar (San Diego) cases.
Since I completed this memo, we have received some
answers by Pittsburgh Corning to interrogatories. Information
from these documents will be included in another memorandum.
