Regarding the two agency reports to Congress required under the
c' : --. _te 1..... .
1. Yesterday one of the wire service reporters phoned to say
that American Medical News (A'11A) had pu'-..~li!shed'a a story on
the new Surgeon'Co_a~al"s repor:t,, and so the two wiree
services had agreed to go ahead and release their stories
without waiitingifurther for a government release date to
be set. Our statement on the report had long since been
given to certain reporters, and we made gen,eral~ distribu-
tion yesterday. Copy enclosed..
2'. Last Thursday we learned that the Federal Trade Commission
report had that day been q,nietly sent to the Hill,, wi~thout
any FTC news release in connection,with it. We were',able
to obtain a few copies during a meeting here Friday of the.
Committee'o:f Counsel, and each person present was given
one. Our duplicating equipment failed', preventing,my
sending,you a copy before today. It is enclosed.W'e do
not plan to issue a statement about it.
