Atrbu~rn Street Cambridge, MA 02138 Dear W'alter: Following our conversation yesterday evening let me describe.where I' / think we.have arrived in our planning for Gary Huber"s move to Mt. Auburn. The following outline revises and expands upon my earlier letter to youi: 1) The Memorandum of Understanding, outlining Dr. H'uber's relationship to the Hospital with the revisions iindicated in my letter of November 2'1 iiss acceptable to you and' is tolbe ratified by the Trustees and signed' by Dr. Huber. A revised Append'iix C is attached for use inithe final document. C 2) The HaspitaT will allocate for Dr. Huber's use the required space in the Clark Building (3'rd'd floor and) basement) and inithe Central Support Building,for a five-year period with an option to continue its use for ani additional five-year period'. Plans for the renovation and allocation oflthis space are awaiting formal' approval bytheH'ospital. 31) During the first five-year period the Hospital will forego overhead on the tobaccoiindustry: program!and will maken~o, charges for rent, utiliti;esi„ maintenance.,, etc., 4)! During the first five-year period, the Hospital will contribute.to. Dr. Huber's tobacco industry! research account at Harvard an amount equal too overhead reimbursement it receives as a result of other sponsored research being conductedl.by Dr. H'uber or hi~s associates in Hospital space up to approximately$127',50f1 (r~epresen~ti~ng, the portion ofrenovationcosts a:t Mt. Auburn attributable to Dr. Huber's non-tobacco-industry supported research). Once this level of contribution has been reached, we will discuss the disposition of'add!itionall owerhead'' reimbursement received from suc4sources. 5) The Htbspita~ll has agreed to pay for essential building repairs to, the Clark BuiIding,-- including the el~evator,, roof andd emergency generator -- andihas approved $'125y,000 for this purpose.
