c C Harvard Medical School - Mount Auburn Hospital DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE GARY L. HUBER, M.D., DIRECTOR Smoking and Health Research Program Harvard Medical School at Mount Auburn Hospital Ms. Joyce Brinton Assistant to the Dean for Planning Fz Special Projects Harvard Medical School 25 Shattuck Street Boston, MA 02115 Mount Auburn Hospital _ 330 ,Mount Auburn Street Cambridge, Massachusetts 02138' 617-661 1958 December 13, 1979 . Dear Joyce, As I have communicated to you previously, most (but not all) of our investigative staff have had a productive first two quarters or so in the phase out period. Indeed!, we now are generating manuscripts at the rate of about 3 to 4 per month, and I do not think we can do better than that. One of the very special things that has happened is that we have been / as`ked slet"rs enclosPrll tn dPVeloT) l,N1H ZUe~zksh,Qp here at Harvard n~,;1;ing ,lmorphI0' metrYwhich we have developed in this country as well as anyone (it has for years been usedlprimarily abroad, in England arid Switzerland). Lynne Reid and I have been asked to co-chair it and organize the course, and we have encouraged Paul Davies to share that endeavor. The faculty will be international, and the participants drawnifrom many universities. We are in the process of developing a monograph text for the course, which will hopefully have wider distribution. I have discussed it with,Ron`Arky, as well, who had been supportive. It will be a nice thing to have, in part, at the Mount Auburn Hospital next spring. I am very pleased and I thimk that this is a special opportunity. It is. ~ a real positive by-product, so to speak, of our efforts. I just wanted to let you know, as it is one of the rea11y special thi that has been made ossible as a rult o the phase-out e t. Thanks 6r eliping to make it possible. GLH!:mtc Enclosures cc: R. Arky Sincerely, Gary L. Httber, M.D., Director Smoking and Health Research Program
