Spears Syndrome I have reviewed the material that was forwarded on the above proposal. If I understand correctly, the proposal is to try and correlate office building syndrome symptoms, i.e. eye, ear and~ throat irritation, headache, nausea and drowsiness with archi- tectural design and ventilation features of the work place. I presume architectural design would include estimation of degree of natural lighting, temperature control, humidity control, etc., but I'm not sure. subject and find little enthusiasm for the "science" of this It would seem-to me that noise levels, social interaction at the work place, actual temperatures, actual humidity, and level of pollution could potentially all play a roll in reported symptoms. I am unable to determine how the'hrchitectural stress information schedule"relates to accumulation of such data. Bill Shinn states in his letter that the study could be useful with respect to the controversial issue of restriction of smoking in the work place. In my reading of the material, I .fail to see how the results of this study could'be useful. Perhaps some of my confusion and negative comments could be over- come if I knew what the'architectural stress information schedule" .was. I've been~trying to reach~Bill Shinn for clarification.
