Subject: A6HtAE Standards Draft Revision 62-73R, January 15, 1980
Dear Larry,
Thanks for picking up an error inmy reply to your June 27th conments on the
draft. The "95 cubic feet" I cited, should have been 95 cfm, I am informed.
(For ocmparison, British StandBrd 5925:1980 assumes an indeterminate portiai
of adult building occupants smokes, at a rate of 1.3 cigarets per hour per
smoker, and that 20 m3 of fresh air seems reasonable per cigaret. This is
about 700 ft3. Fbr 2 cigarets, 1400 ft3 would be required. So, per
smoker, about 23.3 ft3/min would thus be required if you use the British
dilutial suggestion.)
After reviewing your response of October 6th, we identify the following areas
as unresolved:
1. Section 5.1. When natural ventilation and infiltration are relied on,
without-the extra expense of mechanical ventilation, the conmittee feels
it should be mandatory that the ventilation rate be detmnstrated (not
necessarily measurable).
2. Table 3 and Section 6,1.3. (My reference to page 22 should have been page
.) Smo ing vs. non-smo ing ventilating air flow rates.
These will be listed as unresolved oamnents in the Crnmittee's report.
Very truly yours,
Frederick H. Kohloss
Member, ASHRAE Standard Project Conmittee 62-73R
