June 7, 1982 TO: WK FM: WT RE: AMERICAN', REDCROSS ANTI-SMOKING RESOLUTION Bob Bateman, Phillip Morris, Richmond, advises that the American Red Cross adopted the following resolution at its annual meeting in St. Louis, May 26: "Smoking: Whereas, a major effort in health promotion and disease and accident prevention has been adopted as a central theme of organizational development in Red Cross in the next decade; and Whereas, the weight of medical evidence suggests that smoking of tobacco products can adversely affect the health of not only smokers themselves, but also~non- smokers in the vicinity; NOW THEREFORE, b e it resolvedthat smoking be discouraged in common areas, classrooms, meetings and conferences of the American Red Cross." The resolution has been sent to local ARC chapters for for ratification. It!s on the Richmond chapters agenda, for example, June 10.
