( €HE S190itER$' CL118 506 0hiu StreEb, LPrre Haute, In 47807 Lele;ThQiie 812-234-4118 February 15, 1983 Advertising Department Loews Corporation 666 Fifth Avenue New York, N.Y. 100M Dear Sirs: Enclosed, please find' a letter we'sendito anyone who responds to our ad and is interested in joining our newly forme&organization known as, "The Smokers' Club". We have also had'n an article written about us in both the Winston-Salem Sentinel, and the Louisville Times to date. We have decided to form this organization with the hope that we can squash some of the illegal persuasion methods used against us smokers, from both the medical and governmental units, as well as the private non smoking sector. We feel that we have to start doing something now to keep the non -smokers from getting more of a stronghold on our belief's, and rights as American smokers. We are trying to get memberships, to build our numbers as smokers, to gain a high degree of recognition. We feel that once we have an organization with enough members, we will have the strength to encounter various groups, and organizations both medically and politically to put a stop to all of this nonsense that is strangling our belief's, images, enjoyment, an&rights. Our membership interest is growing, but not nearly fast enough. We need to get more members, and members who will recruit more members to accomplish the goals set out before us. As a cigarette manufacturer, I would think that you can possibly help us with our cause. What we would like in the way of your co-operation is a simple publication of our group and it's goals to your employees, along with the encouragement of your people to help support us. We feel that it will be in their best interest, as well as your company to have "The Smokers' Club" trying to curb the deterioration of the smoking population in America. (Haven't we had enough?) We can assure you, that any help on your part will be greatly appreciated by both our organization, and the members already with us. Hopefully this will be a step in the right directi on~to end this discrimination once and for all. I know it will be a tremendous struggle, but I believe the smokers are the stronger of the two forces. Sincerely yours, Robert M. Carli
