INFORMATIONAL MEMORANDUR
SUBJECT: American Heart Associ'ation News Conference
The AHA will, hold a press conference in New York on
May 15 to release what it calls a "landmark" special re-
port containing recommendations to doctors for diagnosing
and treating hyperlipidemia (high blood fats).
The report, prepared by the AHA's Nutrition Commit-
tee and Council on Arteriosclerosis, will contain specific
recommendations for treating hyperlipidemia, a general term
for elevated concentrations of any or all of the lipids in
blood plasma. It afflicts millions of Americans.
The report discusses the recent Coronary Primary Pre-
vention Trial, which claimed that llowering choleiterol
levels (by medication)i reduced the iincidence of heart at-
tacks and heart attack deaths in a patient population,.

sity, Houston.
W: Virgil Brown, chairman of the AHA Nutrition Commit-
tee from Mt. Si'nai School of Medicine, New York.
