Times Letter-to-Editor - 19 1 Selected TAN members sent press releases and letter-to-editors to local newspapers. III. Federal Excise Tax - 1982 - From January through the Fall of 1982, the entire Division staff worked a considerable amount of time in an effort to defeat the federal tax increase. TAN members generated over 20,000 messages to the White House and 100,000 mailgrams to members of Congress; approximately 100 lobbyists, association executives, and State Activities staff made over 60 personal contacts with members of Congress. See attached listing of contacts. IV. American Red Cross - 1982 Impact individual members of the Board of Directors in a success- ful effort against a smoking restriction resolution. V. Federal Labeling Legislation - 1982/1983 Two TAN mobilizations in 1982 directed at 32 Senators and 17 Congressmen produced copies of 600-700 letters and 30-40 personal contacts. See attached for review of 1983 activity. VI. Congressional Contact Survey - 1982/1983 - State lobbyists and field staff have been requested to identify members of Congress with~whom they have a good relationship. VII. Key Congressional Constituent Contacts - 1983 o3s'7ss'7s As a new program, the field staff is now identifying TAN members and other constituents who have estabiished' relationships with their members of Congress.
