GAPS IN K-N0WLEDGE At the annual meeting last year the request was made for an outline or summary of "'gaps in knowledge" that the Scientific Advisory Board and staff feel must be filled to produce a:realistic perspective on.tobacco use in relation to human health. I~n~ considering this recuest, we revieTaed the document prepared in 196S by The Council's Planning Committee for the Joint Committee on Tobacco and Health, and found little that we would modify. Increased or renewed emphasis is, however, being placed currently on smoking iin.relation to the outcome of pregnancy, to ulcer, to bladder cancer and to vitaminiC requirements, as well as on niitrosamines andichronic effects of carbon monoxide. A copy of this Subcommittee Report is attached,. During,this year we also requested all members of the staff, tl:e Scientific Advisory Board and several consultants to submit their suggestions for research projects that should be considered by The Council. These suggestions were compiled into a single draft outline entitled Some Procosed St.ad~e5, r:~ :, ~o also attacl::.d hcre::~t'.:'.
