Gardner deals with a recent decision of the Council for Tobacco Research, Ui. S. A. to discontinue our studies on cancer of the larynx induced in hamsters by experi'- mental reference cigarett'~e smoke rather than to carry on the studies: to demonstrate the likely absence cf carcinogenic effects from modern cigarettes. This decision taken at the time when a feasibility study est'~ablished the validity of our method is incomprehensible to us. You may be interested in the background of this matter, especially since we are convinced that we have developed a new method which could be helpful'l to the industry and the pot~ential of which escapes the scientific board $f CTR. I am sending you a copy of my letter to Dr. Gardner because I feel that those who have contributed the nearly one million d'ollars which has been spent on the development of! our inhalation method may wish to see this method used now that it has shown the possibility of indlicing cancer of the airway in a small ex- periment'~a1 animal.
