Gardner deals with a recent' decision of the Council for Tobacco Research, U. S. A. to: discontinue our studies on cancer of the larynx induced in~hamst~ers by experi- mental reference cigarette smoke rather than, to: carry on the studies to demonstrate the likely absence of' carcinogenic effects from~modern cigarettes. This d'ecision taken at the time when a feasibility study established the validity, of our method is incomprehensible to us. You may be interested in,the background of this matter, especially since we are convinced that we have developed a new method which could be helpfuli to the industry and the potential of which escapes the scientific board bf CTR. I am sending you a copy of my 1'etter to Dr. Gardner because I feel that' those who:have contributed the nearly one million dollars which has been spent on the development! of our inhalation method may wish to see this method used now that it! has shown the possibility of inducing' cancer of the airway in a small ex- perimental animal.
