Dear Dr. Shipley:
The description of your work concerning!the physiologic effects
of nicotine is most interesting. However, the type of clinical
research you propose for the evaluation of experimental cigarettes
is beyond the scope normally encompassed by Lorillard research
activities. Lorillard typically supports this kind of research
through its participation in the Council for Tobacco Research
U.S.A. located in New'York City. The CTRwas established many
years a'go as a research grant administering organization funded
by the Tobacco Industry to support scientific work relating to
tobacco and tobacco smoke and their componen~ts. I would'suggest
that you contact them regarding your proposed studies.
