But I think we have some very similar attitudes about effective government. There is.an important public policy question on public smoking on your local ballot on November 7th. This public policy question. would instruct your local legislator to vote for legislation which wouldl require the establishment of segregated smok.ing, and non-smoking areas. in all public places and would fine those who mig:^.t violate these restrictions., The proponents of' this legislation would have you believe that this proposal is about smoking and' smoking only. Buv„ it isn"t. It is about a proposed law•that could. cost millions of dollars in feasibility studies and consulting fees, printing, and posting of signs, and law enforcement efforts. It is about prohibiting smoking on sidewalks and in public parks, at sports arenas, and'other open-air facilities. It is about th,e inefficiency and cost of government interfering, with daily and normal human decisions--forgetting the very real lessons •learned duiing the Prohibition Era of the 1920's. I hope you'll agree with me--and!lots of other concerned citizens in your town--and vote NO on the public policy question concerning segregated smoking.in all public places. Its not.a question o;f' public smoking--its a question of good law versus bad, law. Vote No! St c Chairman -~.~C`O~ _
