i NAL Hon. Edward R. Roybal PRESIDENT National Association Of Latino Elected And Appointed Officials ... and the people who support them Hon. Robert Garcia SECRETARY-TREASURER Mr. Arthur J. Stevens Vice President and General Counsel Lorillard Co. 666 Fifth Avenue New York, N. Y. 10019 Dear Mr. Stevens: June 17, 1981 It was a pleasure having lunch with you recently in New York. Congressman Garcia also expressed his appreciation for your taking the time to meet with us. I would like to take this opportunity to acquaint you with the philosophy, goals and objectives of our organization and to request that you consider assisting in NALEO's development. NALEO has developed a comprehensive Hispanic advocacy and leadership network dedicated to the advancement of the Hispanic people. NALEO effectively serves as a vehicle through which the Hispanic perspective can be articulated, particularly in the nation's capital where policy decisions are made regarding such vital issues as economic development, education, housing, unemployment, and health. NALEO has combined the resources of the nation's top Hispanic political, business and community leadership and utilized them to further the goals of the Hispanic people. By developing an organization of concerned Hispanics and non-Hispanics, NALEO has in effect established the broad-based support necessary to successfully advocate for legislation, programs and policies which benefit Hispanics in both public and private sectors. Our membership and sponsorship is open to any individual, organization or business that shares NALEO's goals of improving the welfare of the Hispanic community, greater achievement and involvement in the political, social and business environment affecting our people, and maximizing communications with Hispanic leadership of the United States. Understand that NALEO is like no other national Hispanic organization in the country today. It is not meant to duplicate or infringe upon any other organization's objectives, but rather to maximize the total Hispanic voice and increase its effectiveness. NALEO is nonpartisan; it does not endorse or contribute to political candidates. We do not solicit or accept governmental funding of any kind. Our support, therefore, is entirely dependent upon membership and contributions. In order to continue our growth and effectiveness, we need your support. Toward that end, I am requesting Lorillard Co. to make a Leadership Gift of $2,500. You will be joining United California Bank, ARCO, Anheuser-Busch, the firm of Vasquez, Quezada & Navarro, Bank of America, Philip Morris, USA, and Vanir Development Co. in the ranks of NALEO Leadership Gift Givers. We ask you to become part of NALEO's unique and historic undertaking, which is providing a united Hispanic voice in the nation's capital and across the country.
