NEW YORK' ACTION ON' COMPREHENSIVE
ANTI-SMOKING PROPOSAL TAKEN'
On'Tuesday, March 21, the'New York Assembly Health Committee gave its support to'
bill 11 8565, a comprehensive proposal introduced' on' May 12, 1977 that would re-
strict smoking in any "public place" or at a "public meeting° except in designated
smoking areas. Last year, M 8565 (also known as S' 6117)' died in the Assembly Rules
Comm,iltfiee after receiving approval by the Health and Codes Committees. In spite of
its passage last year through the Health Committeey H'' 8565 had to begin this y,car
with no "pass"' points to its credit.

educational'' faciilities, hospital's, nursing homes, auditoriiums, theaters, llibraries,,

occupied exclusively by smokers...''' The Assembly Health Committee has amended this
1'tst to omit factories from workplaces and to omit the spectfic term "nursiing
