Joseph L Zieve, Columbus,, Ohio AN URGENT APPEAL TO' CITIZENS' OF NEW YORK A.8565B; a bil'l~ to amend the public health law by restrictiiig'smoking,ih a wide variety of public places is now being consIdered~ by~ the~~ New~ York State~~ Legi'slature:, If enacted, the law would prohibit smoking, in: Retail Stores Barber Shops Beauty Salons Tobacco Stores Restaurants Hamburger Stands Diners ' Pizza Parlors' Discos' Hotel Lobbies Arenas Bowling Alleys 1Wleetingi Rooms (church groups, Kiwanis clubs, Knights of Colu;mbus)' Any indoor area servingi as a place of work This bill and a, companion' bill in the Senate (6117B) would~ also impose a fine of up to $ 100 for anyone who vio- lates the act or fails to enforce it. This means that a businessman, proprietor or mana- ger of a business'would be'subj'ect to a fine if a customer in hi's establishment was caught smoking; as would the customer. Owners of a business would be required to pay for and post NO 1 SMOKING' notices in order to 1 comply with thee provisions of this measure.
