More than half of the respondents a(sq said they are in favor of a pro- posed bill in the Legislature to ban playing radios or tape-recorders on sub- ways and bules. But here again, more than half said. they did not think the law would be enforced if it were passed. ~ About half of those polled said they did not think that bans on smoking and playing radios woul d be on infringe- ment on people's rights, In May, the Assembly defeated a'bi,ll, that would have prohibited smoking In - ; public places except in specified smok- Ing areas. However, , its principal sponsor, Assemblyman Alexander B. Grannis (D, ,. . L-Manhettan), amended the bill to ex- elude some types of restaurants and smaller work places. The legislation is expected to have rough sledding in the Assembly. Also , OPINION POLL facing a stiff fight is a proposed bill to, ban playing of radios or tape-recorders on buses and subways. The Daily News Poll, a random tele- ,phone survey of 400 adults in the city and Westc:hester, Rockland, Nassau and Suffolk counties,. was conducted July 10, 11 and 12. Richard F.
