Dear Fellow Employee:
The Westchester County Board of Health recently adopted an
amendment to the County Sanitary Code which will restrict
smoking in most indoor areas open to the public, including
offices, stores, auditoriums, theatres, museums and the like.
You may share our view that such regulation is not only un-
necessary and oppressive but clearly adversely affects our
business. You may also believe that matters of this kind
should be treated by your legislators and not by a mere ad-
ministrative agency such as the Board of Health.
For these reasons, we ask you to consider urging the Westchester
County Legislature to review the action of the Board of Health
and~to invalidate the proposed restrictive amendments.
We have enclosed a list of the members of the County Board of
Legislators and an example of what may be an appropriate letter
to a legislator requesting some action on this matter. You
may wish to request, in writing (on your own stationery),
appropriate action on the part of your County Legislator.
Your response to our calling this matter to your attention
is a completely voluntary matter which is entirely in your
discretion; however, we do ask you to consider taking part
in something which affects both your County government and~
your Company in an important way.
