A regular meeting of the Board of Directors of P. Lorillard
Company was held today at the office of the Company, 119 West 40th
Street, New York City.

Mr. Kent, Chairman of the Board, presided and the Secretary
acted as Secretary of the meeting.
On motion duly made and seconded, the reading of the minutes
of the previous meeting was dispensed with.
On motion of Mr. Henderson, seconded by Mr. Hopewell, it was
unanimously
RESOLVED: That the Transfer Books of the Registered Three
Per Cent Debentures of this Company, due March 1, 1976, shall be
closed at three-thirty o'clock P. M., August 15, 1953, for the
payment of interest thereon due September 1, 1953, and shall be
reopened at ten o'clock A. M., September 2, 1953.
On motion of Mr. Hopewell, seconded by Mr. Gruber, the follow-
ing advertising expenditures, all of which are a part of and within
the sum of money authorized by the Board of Directors at a meeting
held October 15, 1952, for an advertising program during the year
1953, were in all respects approved, ratified and confirmed:
Estimates of Lennen & Newell, Inc. as follows:
#479, dated May 8, 1953, covering television advertising of
OLD GOLD Cigarettes, sponsorship Chance of a Lifetime, May 21
through August 13, 1953, at a cost of $391,600.15;
#481, dated May 25, 1953, covering cost of Herb Shriner telecast
advertising OLD GOLD Cigarettes, April 4, 1953, in the sum of
$1,500.00;
#492, dated June 16, 1953, covering newspaper advertising of OLD
GOLD Cigarettes during June and July, 1953, as therein set out, 0
at a cost of $235,685.62;

#493, dated June 11, 1953, covering advertising of OLD GOLD p
Cigarettes in August 1953 issue of trade paper VEND at a cost 46
of $430.00; ~
#494, dated June 15, 1953, covering production costs for spot

radio advertising of OLD GOLD Cigarettes, as therein set out,
at a cost of $542.74.
