Thacher Mrs. Harold I. Pratt Mrs. Thomas J. Watson Mrs. ".7illiam A. Lockwood Mrs. Herman G. Place Mrs. Rodney Proctor Mrs. John L. Senior have undertaken to raise funds in addition to their own sizable contributions, for the restoration of the old Lorillard Snuff a1.1 area, now a part of the New York Botanical Gardens. The Mill will be converted into a public restaurant and meeting pLace for civi.c., fraternal and similar organizations. Working draw- ings will be ready in a few woeks and it is predicted that the work will be finished by Spring of next year. b~. Kent has discussed this matter with Mr. Charles B. Hardina, President of the New York Botanical Gardens, and Mr. HcnYard Gerchen, our Director of Sales Per- sonnel, has had several disoussions with Dr. William J. Robbins., Director, and 14r. J. Mark Rerans, Administrator of the Botanical Gardens. We have been offered the following: 1. Identify the I~'.i.l7l as Lorillard ts original Bromc River bfi.ll. 2. Designate the entire Lorillard area covering the Mill, the stables, the gate house., the original mansion site by a specific area name, such as "The Historical Lorillard Area*. -

Include mention of this area in all publicity of the t Install suitable plaques at these points and include this area in the official tour of the Botanical Gardens. Provide suitable space in the Mill as a historical e.-hi.bit of all Lorillard products progressively to the present. Botanical Gardens such as articles in their magazine, and on their television and/or radio programs. Include horillard in the dedication ceremonies as well as in subsequent offical opening ceremonies and attendant publicity in connection with such events. Our contribution for participation in this project will be $25,000. It is under- stood that there is no obligation whatsoever for any subsequent contributions. The Lorillard ?dill distinctl,y and visually establishes the record of our Compar>ry as the oldest tobacco manufacturer in the United States. The conservation of the Mill as a place for public relaxation will impress its identity on the visiting public in the New York Botanical Gardens. The number of visitors on xeekends and holidays last year totaled lp250,000. In the opinion of the Sales Division, this project presents a high level public relations opportunity for the Lorillard Comparq. It,is therefore recomnended that we contribute the sum of $25#000 as our share in this project.
