TITLE Merit & Vantage JOB p 55k2/777 kesearch Design (N, Cclls, Elegibility, Design, Key Banner Brcaks, Methodology, Cities) In our continuing effort to evaluate the taste perception for True 5mgs., we will now be conducting taste tests vs. Merit and Vantage cigarettes. The research methodology is consistent with our tests against Now, Carlton and Decade. In short, all "qualified" participants will be 21 years of age or older, and will be smokers of at least 1/2 pack of cigarettes/day. No regular brand smokers of True, Merit or Vantage or any non-filter cigarettes will be eligible. There will be a total of 500 random smoker respondents in the study. '(1/2 will test True vs. Merit and the other 1/2 will test True vs. Vantage--this will be further broken equally into menthol and non-menthol subcells). All participants will be blind- folded and will not be aware of the cigarettes they are testing. Furthermore, during the cigarette testing, in an effort to avoid any position bias, True will be offered as the lst cigarette tried & as the 2nd cigarette tried, on a rotating basis. The testing will once again be done at the Roosevelt Field Shopping Center in L.I. Exact fields are still being worked out, but MRD anticipates the study being completed by the 1st week in May. Key Criteria For Analysis The objective of this research program is to ascertain whether or not True 5mg. C~`hcigarette have a significantly higher level of taste perception than Vantage and/or f Merit cigarettes.
