The attached exehange "of eorrespondenee between Ernie
Aepples and Alex Spears as it relates to the Harvard
project is for your background inforation.
1lhile I doa't suggest that you take significant time
to read all of then in detail, the additional correspondence
among lteadow, Shinn, Stanford and Huber also relate to the
"1at.at d.velopwsnts" concerning Harvard.
Briefly Mhat happsned here is that Harvard had just
about concluded a"final"proposal to the Industry involving
both clinical and research facilities (not animal testing)
at Mount Auburn, when Mount Auburn changed its aind. Then,
Meadow proposed another "fiual solution" involving a sossl-
bow newly-discovered, extensive animal testing facility at
Southboro, built for Harvard by the NiH.

rrankly, this thing is such amess, and-~ehanges so
often, that it's like mercury under the thuab.

Following a Cosraittee of Counsel meeting at Marco an
March lat, at my sugq.stion, the Comoaittee of,C onns.l
invited Huber, at his request, to met with oi on March
23rd so that he could make a personal presentation for the
furtherance of the project at Harvard. Hub.r was to be
'advis.d in advance by Shinn that the Industry consensus '
was overMbehly against continuing the project at Harvard,
but that be should to persuade ns once-and-for-all to
the contrary. In add~tio~s, Huber was to be advised that ,
he should also propose to the Industry aounsel alternative
methods for a continuing indepeAdent research relationship
between be and the Zndustry.

as you know, Joe Edens and Ernie Peppies separately
suggested to you and I on March 3rd that some effort
should be made to try to continue the Harvard projeet,
if at all possible.
