Arteriolosclerosis, slight. 9. Basal cell hyperplasia, moderate, with slight to moderate atypism. 10. Brown pigment and fat granulomata:; all lobes of the lung. 11. Fibrous thickeningof the pleura:, sli'~ght to moderate, bilateral. 12. Squamous metaplasia of the trachea and tracheostomy, sit with slight o moderate atypism. 13. Lymphoidiand reticulum cell hyperplasia of the tracheobronchial lymph nodes. 14. Brown pigmentation~and fatty infiltration of the tracheobronchial lymph nodes. 15. Coronary arteriolosclerosis, slight. 16. Fatty infiltratilrn of the myocardium. COrIIiENT' r This is a dog of the Enviro Control series. The dog was in Group 67-PMO. The dog had smoked for a period of 495 days wit4a total of 6,032 cigarettes smoked. The dog was found deadiin i~ts cage. The findings in this case are those of extensive pulmonary infar,'ti~omin all lobes of the lungs, more advanced on the left side. The infarcts are secondary to the thrombus in the right auricular appendage..•The thrombi broke off and as emholii landedlin m<,ny vessels of both lungs resulting,in infarction of the seven lobes. The infarcts are of recent origin as seen in the fact that there is very little evidence of repair at tfi is periphery. In addition there is a moderate basal cell hyperPlasia.of the bronchi with moderate atypism. There is a slight to moderate pul- monarv fibrosis and emphysema. The latter two findings are rellated to cigarette smoking.
