They are lined by low cuboidal cel!ls. Within their lumens is a thick pink staining colloid material. The euithelial lining of the trachea is squamous in character. In the basal layers, the nuclei vary slightly in si'ze, shape and, stai'ning• chlaracter. In the subepithelial portions are collections of lymphocytes and mononuclear cells. The findings related to the dog;'s deathiare those of an acute bronchitis and, a bronchopneumonia of a recent origin within the right cardiac lobe. A pulmonary edema was also present in the left diaphragmatic lobe. The remainder of the changes in relationship to smoking were those of a pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema of a slight degree and in areas of a slight to moderate degree and also basal cell hyperplasia of a slight degree with sl'ight to moderate atypism.
