Basal cell hyperplasia of the trachea with slight to moderate atypism. 12. Brown pigment and fatty infiltration of the tracheobronchial lymphinodes 13. Lymphoid and reticulum cell hyperplasiia of the tracheobronchial lymph nodes 14. Coronary arteriolosclerosis, slight 151. Fatty infiltration of the myocardliumi COMMENT This is a dog in the Enviro Control Series and is in the Code 67 Group (PM0). The d'oq had smoked cigarettes for a period of 231 days with a tntal of 3,0f)3 cigarettes smoked. At the end of this time the dog was killed. Iruteresting fiindings in the lung in relation to cigarette smoking are those of a pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema of a sliqht and'in areas a slight to moderate degree. Also present and related to ci(jarette smoking is the presence of a basal cell hyperplasia of a slight degree with sliig,ht to moderate atypism. There is also an arteri'olosclerosis of a slight degree within the lungs and' heart. Interesting is the fact that there are only a few brown piigment and fat granulomata presen' in the lung parenchyma. This may be due to the fact that the don had smokecl cigarettes only for a period of 231 days. Another interestinq finding is the ;lresence of an acute bronchitis and, broncho{meumorria within the left apilcal and left cardiac llohes. The extent of the bronchitis is not advanced; nor is the bronchopneumoni'a advanced. When.the findiings of pult, ionary fibrosis and emphysema and basal cell hyperplasia with atypism are comnared with the ciqarette smoking of the first study, the chanp;es in this dog are far less than in the first series.
