COMMENT
This is a dog in the Enviro Control series (code 67-PM0). The dog was found dead in
.his c:ge on October 24, 1978. The dog had smoked for a perio&of 445 days with a
total of 5,568 cigarettes smoked. The findings again are those of pulmonary infarc-
tion !,econdary to a recent thrombus in the right auricular appendage with showers of
embol' from the thrombus into the pulmonary vessels of all lobes of both lungs. The
pulmo, ary infarction although present in all lobes of the lungs was much more advanced
on th, right side than on the left. As a matter of fact the pulmonary infarcts were
diagno5ed microscopically in the lobes on the left side, whereas they were grossly
visible omthe right side. In addition there was a pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema
of a slight to moderate degree and also a basal cell hyperplasia of a slight to
moderate degree. Again when compared with the first and second studies the findings
in this case are much less as a result of cigarette smoking.
