Galleys of the article in Science have not yet-been received, indicating that publication _is some time later than the NAS address of October 28. Meeting with-Messrs. Spitzer and Witti, it was agreed that . Dr. Spears should advise Dr. Gori to bring the following to the meeting of October 28: 100 copies of-the NAS abstract (copy attached -herewithr with figures corrected , - 100 copies of the full paper as presented 100 copies of the NCI release or translation . Subject to approval here, mailings will be=made to -a select target group ot writers,-_editors, reporters, etc., to consist-of A brief note on Katzenstein Associates buckslip (per attached specimen) A-copy of the pertinent pages from the NAS program announcement A copy of the NAS abstract of the Gori-preser.tation (with annotation correcting-the 15 mg to 150 mg tar) to be mailed in Katzenstein Associates envelope and with stamp (not metered postage) ,

r Messrs. Spitzer and Witti will make appropriate contact with their own list of writers, editors, reporters, etc., as well as with others who will in turn ask for Washington coverage of the event of the 28th. They have been unable to reach Paul Van Nevel at NCI, as :has John Blamphin at HEW (Dr. Cooper's office). But they are in contact with Mr. Blamphin and will pursue the matter as arranged. The earlier draft release modeled for NCI has been-revised and a copy sent to Dr. Spears. If it is deemed appropriate to offer this to-Dr. Gori, Spitzer Associates will not attempt to offer it to Mr. Van Nevel. If it is not offered to Dr. Gori, Spitzer Associates should be so advised to permit them to consider offering it if the circumstances make this appropriate. (Not a strong likelihood, but the possibility should n ot be ruled out.) Dr. Spears is asked to keep me informed on this. In line with the request made of participants at the meeting here on October 12th, Mr. Witti has prepared a series of questions that seem possible once the interest of the press is aroused.- No respo~ises have been suggested.
