Tile Consurier Reports s moke data for 1960 vere genersted by the

(probab]:y neasured by a water column), once a minute; tl:e cigarettes
having-been smoked to a 25 r!m butt. The values were reported as
wet `itar.'-' To obtain rlry "tar'i figures we subtracted 15`/% fr.oin the
yield of filter cigarettes and 10% from the yield of non-filters.
The 1954 Consumer Reports smoke data were originally-obtained -
by a different si^oking method (alcohol trap and chloroform extrac-
tion of tar) and they were currected by Consurer Reports in their
later publications by mult;plyinb the values by 2.55 (= wet "rTC Tar").
1967 - Smoke data - Tob. Reporter 94 (12) 1967

Sales figures - Tob. Reporter 99 (11) 1972
?n all the years there were some minor brands for which either
sales figures or smoke yields were not published. These were omitted
frnIa thn cpiC:JlatiOCS.
For 1967 the sales breakdocm between F70, F80 and F85 cigarettes
was not available whereas the smoke yield data were given by length
class. For :;arlboro the sales were assumed to be 50% F80 and 50:
F85, for all other filter brands the proportion of F80 and F:0 sales
was assumed to be negligible. -
