SUBJECT: pH of Particulate Phase of Selected Cigarettes
A number of cigarettes were selected for the deter- .
mination of particulate phase pH. They were chosen because
of their sales or TVB analysis. The method used for the
measurement of the pH was the one employed by A. M. Ihrig
.and d'escribed'in his report Accession Number 85. He feels
, that this method correlates quite well with smoke pH. We
are awaiting a report from Dr. Chen with his recommendations
in regard to instrumentation or methods which would be more
suitably related to this study.

Our efforts to make cigarettes with small amounts of
we do not have sufficient tobacco to make cigarettes in
the plant. We will check smoke pH on these samples as
.soon as possible. Leaf analyses were obtained from
-H. Bogue's semi-annual report.
